Prison Leaders recruitment campaign launched - 08 Dec 09

The National Offender Management Service (NOMS) has launched two new recruitment campaigns – the Senior Prison Manager Programme and the NOMS Graduate Programme.

Senior Prison Manager Programme (SPMP)

The Senior Prison Manager Programme (SPMP) offers senior managers, from within and outside of the Prison Service, the opportunity to reach Deputy Governor or equivalent within two years, by providing participants with the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to operate at a senior level within the Prison Service.

All managers join a functional head role within a prison. There are a number of formal development interventions that all SPMP participants will need to complete, including Prison Officer Entry Level Training (POELT) and further formal courses.

Satisfactory completion of all the elements of the programme will give participants eligibility to apply for accredited Senior Manager posts.

NOMS Graduate Programme

The NOMS Graduate Programme will give successful candidates the opportunity to develop the leadership qualities and operational expertise to manage one of the most complex and challenging environments around.

As well as learning about prison service values and responsibilities, you'll develop the skills you need for your first role on the programme: Prison Officer.

Over the next 18 months to two years, you'll gain further experience and responsibility, as you progress from Prison Officer to Senior Officer level. Then, in the final year of the programme, you will move into a middle management Trainee Manager role. There will also be opportunities to take up secondments elsewhere in NOMS and the Ministry of Justice, perhaps working in the Minister's office or for a Director in HQ.

For further information for both campaigns and an on-line application form please visit the Prison Leaders site.
